Spanish Department
Visit to the “Instituto Cervantes”
On February 23rd, 2011, students attending Spanish classes of grades 9, 10, 11 and IB1, took a trip to Downtown, Beirut to the Spanish Language center: “ Instituto Cervantes”. We departed in the morning from school to the location with our peers along with our monitors and Spanish teachers Ms. Maya Helou and Ms. Esperanza Breydy. Students were given a chance to experience and explore a Spanish library and become knowledgeable about the organization of the books in any library in the world. In addition, students were given the opportunity to use a virtual and Interactive program called the AVE (Aula Virtual de Español) . Upon arrival, the students separated in two groups. The group I was in headed to the library or “biblioteca” first, where we were handed a paper to fill out: questions varied from citing books, searching for movies or magazines. The experience brought peer to peer ethics into play along with the help of the librarian, a Spanish native Ms. Mireia Moreno. For the second part, we went to the Multimedia Room where we were asked to complete some activities on a virtual and Interactive program called the AVE (Aula Virtual de Español) . We left the center at noon, right after having lunch at Mc Donald’s. It was fun!
