Special Education Department

Mission/Belief
The mission of the Special Education Department is to meet the individualized educational needs of children who have special needs. Our goal is to provide the appropriate programs that suit each student best. In the Special Education Department, we establish and maintain an educational environment that is positive and proactive.
In addition, we are responsible for designing and implementing positive behavioral plans.
The philosophy of our department is that all individuals with special needs hold the right to a proper education to become active members of our school.
Students admitted into the Special Education Department are students identified as having Learning Disabilities.

The Special Education Department Intervention is composed of the following services:
1. The Student follows a regular education curriculum attending his/her classroom under the supervision of the Special Education Department, and completes tests in the Special Unit classroom.

2. The student attends the Special Education classroom 4 to 5 periods a week (part-time). The student will follow a modified program that aims to reinforce skills the student needs to master.

3. The student attends the Special Unit during most of the academic periods. They will follow an individualized educational program created to best suit the student's needs and abilities. In this case, The Special Education Unit will provide individual support (shadow teacher) at parental expense.

The Special Education Unit's Staff:
The Special Education Department staff is comprised of :

1- Head of Department
2- Coordinator
3- Cycle Coordinators

Students in the Special Education Department each receive an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) written by their Special Education Teacher. These IEP's written under the supervision of the Head of the Department and the coordinators are evaluated three times per year. Implementation of the individualized program is under the supervision of the cycle coordinator within the special education classroom.

Special Needs Record Keeping:
All records for students with special needs, including screening results, referral forms, student plans, report cards, screening and diagnostic tests, and assessment reports will be kept in locked files in the Special Education Department. These records are confidential and will be made available only to parents, Heads of Divisions and professionals when and if necessary.
